Stuffy Nose
About Stuffy Nose
If you’ve ever had a stuffy nose, you know how frustrating it can be. A stuffy nose can make you feel sick when you actually feel fine overall. ‘Stuffy noses’ are another way to say that your nasal passages are congested or blocked. Your nose may run, and the color of your mucus could be clear, cloudy, yellow, or green. The condition can be caused by structural issues within the nose such as by a deviated septum. Common causes also include allergies and viral or bacterial infections. If you have had an unexplained stuffy nose it is important to have it evaluated so the underlying cause can be identified and treated.

When you come in to the The Breathe Clear Institute, we will ask you about your symptoms and perform a thorough exam. For the majority of patients, this involves the placement of a small endoscope about the size of a strand of spaghetti into your nose. This portion of the exam is called sinonasal endoscopy and it helps us determine whether there are polyps, a deviated septum, or other structural issues contributing to your congestion. An allergy test is often part of the workup as well. Once the cause or causes have been identified, the treatment can then be customized for you. Medications, in-office treatments, and in some cases minimally invasive procedures in the operating room can provide the relief you need.
