Itchy Eyes
About Itchy Eyes
Itchy eyes are an all-too-frequent symptom of allergies or exposure to other environmental irritants such as mold, animal dander, pollen, pollution and other toxins. An irritated eye will often water, redden, and itch both on the lids and in the general vicinity of the eyes. Rubbing your itchy eyes unfortunately will only make the problem worse.

Your visit with us at The Breathe Clear Institute includes a thorough physical exam and a detailed history. Important information we need to get from you includes any obvious triggers causing your eyes to itch. We may recommend allergy testing and in some cases toxin testing, which are performed in our office and can be very helpful in identifying triggers. Over the counter drops such as oxymetazoline (e.g. Visine) do not get to the root of the problem and are not an ideal long term solution. We may write you a prescription for antihistamine eye drops. If we identify allergies on your test, a long-term solution is immunotherapy, which gets to the root cause of your itchy eyes and can cure the problem.
